Re: Tiling features in Mutter

I'm definitely interested, and I think there are at least a few more who would also be interested based on past posts. I made a post in feb to this list:http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-shell-list/2011-February/msg00062.html
With some ideas / mockups for my ideal window manager: http://gfxmonk.net/2011/02/06/my-ideal-window-manager.html

I've started to work on these features in gnome-shell itself (using _javascript_). but haven't had much time for it. I'm not convinced doing it in the shell is a great idea, as a lot of the functionality is not yet exposed to javscript-land. So I'll definitely check out your code when I get a moment, and we can hopefully work together.

Cheers,
- Tim.

Most people working on Mutter read gnome-shell-list. Suggest to post
there.

Hi,

for quite some time I wanted to have a tabbing-tiling window manager
that integrates nicely
with gnome. I did some hacking on mutter to checked if it would be
possible. I got basic tiling features (with keyboard shortcuts for
hierarchical splitting, resizing tiles, moving windows to different
tiles, etc.) working. Tabbing is missing completely, yet, as I think it
needs some thought do do it sensibly.

I am wondering if there is interest in this, so I'm asking for comments.
Would like to know if it would make sense to continue with this.

If someone wants to try it out, the current version of my branch can be
found here:

http://rapidshare.com/files/452350834/mutter_tiling_0.0.1.tar.xz

It's certainly alpha but many features to work (almost) mouse-free
already working. Notes on usage are in README.Tiling.
