OK, so I don't understand what you did to make it work, if you followed
the instructions the first time. Sorry if I'm getting confused, but I
want to know for sure if there's a problem with the instructions.

Sorry, that's difficult, and it would really be best to wait for a new
release and for Ubuntu to package it.

Yes, that's normal. The example does not yet add any example data - it
just creates an example database structure and layout. I do want to make
it add example data in a future version.
