I have already ticked this check box. But i also had a refresh of 1
hour configured.

That's odd. There is no spinning circle at all. But i can see that the
address book is filling up (~20 contacts every ~10 seconds).

I disabled this option and the addressbook is downloaded and usable
more or less instantly. Thanks :-)
