All should work.  Your details of the problem indicate an environment
problem.  I'm using moz-remote, but that was screwed up in the past and
I edited ~/.gnome/gnome-moz-remote to select the browser that it should
point to.  I recently experienced a problem with a few apps that would
not work when called from the panel or other applications because my
home directory was not in the environment.
