Noone but you can do anything about your millions of improperly ripped CD's.

It is a subjective determination that they are improperly ripped.
And the problem isn't just limited to my few hundred CDs. Every day Ubuntu is "improperly" ripping CDs on other computers as well. Who even knows what Windows Media and others are doing today, etc. That is another of the sort of data point that should be playing into this.

But please dont expect the devs to change banshee

This is the wrong attitude for consumer-focused software. Have you read that joel on software link I sent? Banshee should constantly be thinking about lowering the barriers to users.

because you cant seem to be bothered to either rip your cds properly in the first place,

I don't rip the CDs, my computer does.

furthermore, if your collection is that valuable to you, you should always have a backup.

You misunderstood my point. If I do a massive re-tagging and then only much later notice that it screwed up somewhere, it might not be easy to fix if I don't have any pre-re-tagged backups around anymore.

not just because you might destroy it when retagging (ive tagged many albums with banshee, and interesteringly enough, by default none of the changes are comitted to files, only the database entries are changed).

I'm using picard for tagging, and i must say despite the fact that the musicbrainz database is quite small, i get exact results 99% of the time.

It worries me that this e-mail list is filled only with the sort of people who install tagging software. Maybe the only people who use Banshee are those who have done this because all of those who haven't re-tagged got frustrated with Banshee and quit using it. And so it creates a problem of groupthink.

For all those who have done this, they don't care what the behavior is so I don't even know why they are arguing with me.

To be honest, this change is pretty easy. A better question is whether Banshee can smartly handle albums with multiple CDs.
