The client is a pretty up-to-date debian/sid (libgtk2.0-0 2.8.18-1). The
X server is a RHEL WS3, using XFree86 4.3.0 and supporting RENDER (at
least xdpyinfo says so).
When launching gedit (GTK2), I have to wait 7 seconds to see the window,
then another 6 seconds to see the widgets. Resizing an empty gedit
window (smallwards) takes 2 or 3 seconds. Having a widget higlighted
takes 1 second.

Babytrans (GTK1) takes 5 seconds to display its window, widgets appear
instantly. Resize is quasi-instant. Highlight is quasi-instant.

As I don't have a GTK1 editor, I tried xedit. 3 seconds to display its
window, 1 second for the widgets (hey, it's slower than GTK1!), the rest
is pretty instant.

I'm not allowed to install anything fancy on the X server (that's my
workstation), but I'm willing to run some lightweight diagnosis tool
someday.
