I use MC mainly for copying files, and use to copy a lot between EXT2 and=
=20
VFAT. The problem is, as you know, that VFAT cannot save all the file's i=
nfo=20
on groups/permissions, so MC keeps on saying "Hey, I cannot change the=20
target's file permissions" on _EVERY_ file I copy on the VFAT partition's=
=2E..=20
just think of copying a thousand files from EXT2 and VFAT and having to p=
ress=20
enter to ignore on each!!!

It can be solved without modifying mc. Just use the option "quiet" in your /etc/fstab for your vfat
partition, for example:

/dev/hda1 /mnt/windows vfat showexec,umask=0,quiet 0 0

Reboot and you will not get any file permission errors on this partition.

BTW the option "showexec" removes the annoying executable bit on all files on the vfat partition. (Works for
me on Madrake 8.2.)
