Hello,

Hi,

I'm a software engineering student, and I'd like to participate in GSoC
this year.

I've been looking for ideas and reading what people have proposed, but I
also have a project I've been developing personally, which in my opinion
can be useful to the Gnome project.

Since it's not an existing Gnome module, I'm not sure how an where to
find a mentor.

What I'm working on is a task and project management application.
Something like this: http://www.leadertask.com/ but Free Software and
suited for use by people working on Free and Open content, art and
software projects.

Can you help me find a mentor, or show me where to look?

Are you aware of Getting Things GNOME? http://gtgnome.net/

If you think this project needs to be done despite the existence of
GTG, you'll have to come with solid arguments explaining why and post
that to gnome-soc-list gnome org

If you think you can improve GTG (which would be preferred over a
brand new module), you'll have to contact the GTG maintainers.

Yes, I've been using GTG myself for long time. That's why I decided to
start writing my own task app in the first place... I wanted an app
which implements my own ideas and preferences.

I write it in C++ and the code is organized totally different, so I do
want to continue developing it and have a high quality task and project
management app.

I also contacted the GTG maintainers by mail. If I can work with them on
GTG, great.

I agree joining an existing module is preferred over starting a new one,
but there are many considerations, such as design, goals and roadmap,
target users, the programming language used, etc. For example, you have
both Evolution GnomeMusic and Rhythmbox handling the music. Sometimes
two different tools solve similar problems in different approaches.
