glib question: more configurable version of g_strescape?

Does anyone know if Glib has a more configurable version of g_strescape?

g_strescape makes a new string in which certain characters are escaped by adding 
a '\' in front of them, but doesn't seem to have a way to override what those 
certain characters are.

If such a function does not already exist, how many people would find it useful 
to add to glib?
