Thanks for the update, though I do scratch my head over the idea
that an unstable development build is somehow a "release candidate".
I see this seems to be the norm in the FOSS community, so I guess
I can't really blame the GIMP team, but it does seem like a
software engineering problem to issue release candidates with suspected
issues.
