Why ?
Because if its aim was to prevent me from losing work (transparency edits), it failed. It failed because:
* I was so used to hitting "close without saving" to get rid of the irrelevant save dialog box that I didn't
realise when it really was relevant; and
* even if I had realised, xcf still wouldn't have been my preferred target format.
