Yeah, that's the standard "if you don't like it, you should probably
be using babysfirsteditor instead" response to this issue.

Gimp is free, sure, and nobody can _demand_ the devs do this or that
or whatever.  Still, the idea that users who don't agree about this
single issue are by definition "not suited for the gimp" seems pretty
churlish.

No doubt, and it's good that gimp supports such usage, and maybe even
good that it defaults to it -- but would _also_ be good if it
conveniently supported users who want to use other workflows.
