You're running evolution as root!!  Why on earth would you do that. Rule
1 on computers, never, ever use root/admin/whatever as your normal user.

Define huge.  1Mb? 5Mb? 100Mb? 10Gb?

Yes. Don't use root to read email.

But also, is it just the sent mail that's a problem - does the person
receiving it at the other end have problems?  If you send it to
yourself, can you read it in the normal folders?  If you run Evolution
from the command line, do you see any error messages?  Do you have
enough disk space for this massively huge attachment?
