The real problem is likely that the XML snippet that tells Banshee
(via HAL) that your device is a portable media device supporting X, Y,
and Z is not complete - it's not including the information about it
supporting avi, wmv, m4a etc.  The file you need to edit is usually at
/usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop/10-usb-music-players.fdi

To add those mimetypes should be fairly simple, once you find the
right <match> entry for your device.  You should make a copy of the
file before you modify it, then do a diff afterward to produce a patch
you can send to the HAL list (or give to me and I can submit to them).
