libxml will work on any system you compile it on.
To compile it you need libiconv (and zlib if you like),

Personally I run the same piece of software using libxml2 on Redhat (i386), 
Ubuntu(i386), Suse (Alpha), LFS (i386), Windows 2000 and XP.
