My fault. I created the XML files with XmlSpy and forgot that in default it
terminates lines with CR only.
After setting XmlSpy to insert CRLF it works fine. Many thanks.

Works fine on Linux. No idea where this comes from on your
side, could be a library problem or an instance problem. Add
an error in the file, check that xmllint gives the right line
number on it, triple check your instance line termination,
etc ... In a nutshell investigate, because the problem is
yours until you can give us a reproductible failure case.
