[xml] libxml lite

Hi -
I'm intending to use full-blown libxml2 in an app with a fully developed
user interface.
I'd also like a light-weight xml parser with a similar (the same?) API for
use in tool that just needs to read and write valid UTF-8 xml.
No DTDs or schemas, no validation, no compression, or character conversion,
or entities, or namespaces, or html, or...
You get the idea.
The lighter the better.
Does such a beast exist?
If not, what would it take to put libxml2 on a drastic diet?
