[xml] Building XML response from a DTD

I’m relatively new to XML.  I’ve been doing some research regarding a project of which my team is participating.  Fortunately, someone pointed me to the XML C library for Gnome site.

Our hope is to be able to read into memory (parse) a given DTD from a file and then “walk” the DTD to build an XML response populated with data returned from the DB.  I’ve been trying to read as much of the documentation on the site including the archives.  I think the tools exist within libxml2 to accomplish our task.  I was hoping someone might be able to suggest the functions/routines necessary to do this.  It would help confirm we’re on the right track.

Thank you in advance to anyone able and willing to make suggestions or give guidance.
