Before saying something like this, please bear in mind that you're asking
other people to do you a favor. Second, in case someone decides to do you a
favor it's up to him/her. So, being nice (more precisely, providing the
information that's asked for) just pays in the long run. How are people
supposed to know what's wrong in case they are denied information?

To summarize: please reread your sentence and think about it again.
Hopefaully, you'll come to the conclusion that it was (bluntly put) bullshit
and will refrain from making such statements.
