But why use configure when a fixed config is clearly easier to handle ?
I have no idea, I would use a fixed config. If it were possible to run
configure on a common Windows setup, the fixed config would not be there at
all. Since this is not the case and the fixed config is available, then
fixed config is the way.
Cygwin is another story, that is a full POSIX layer and has its own
C-runtime, one can compile an X server which will run never realising it
runs on Windows. But mingw is basically just a compiler and I see no
advantage in using Unix-shell-based configure in this case, only problems.
Nevertheless, if people want configure, they may do configure, but then in a
way which breaks nothing that is allready established and works good.
