applications and workspaces

Hi All,

i am not sure if this is the correct alias to ask this on, but under CDE a user
was able to launch an application from the command line and have it display on
a particular workspace, byt specifying a resource with it.  Now this was
heavily tied into the window manager.

i was wondering of the possibilty doing something similar in Gnome, but without
the dependency on a particular window manager.

would it be feasbile to offer something like --workspace x which would be
parsed at the gnome layer, which can then pass this information onto a gnome
compliant window manager?

I would appreciate any comments on this,
