Strings
The data type for strings is string. Vala strings are UTF-8 encoded
and *immutable*.
A convenient lie. Vala can do anything.
Personally, I wouldn't use _strip and family
unless string processing is really the bottleneck.
As for thread safety, you shouldn't be having multiple
threads doing UI stuff without mutex (converting errno
to a string is UI stuff).
