Vala compiles the code to C code, which then in turn can be compiled by 
any C compiler. I might only officially support GCC though? Haven't 
tried it with any other compiler. The -C option lets you output the C 
code. Valac is kind of a front-end to GCC after C code generation? There 
is help on the website with getting it to work with build tools such as 
autotools, waf, etc...
