Ok. That sounds reasonable.
But there remains the question why I had to call ldconfig for the
current release and didn't have to do that for vala releases <= 0.9.4
Ideas?

Hello
This works fine!
Shouldn't this be in the make file for vala? Or are there possible
side
effects?
Hi,
this is generally a bad idea to put administrator's commands into
Makefiles. I can explain in details, if anyone interested.
General approach here is: let administrator decide the PREFIX and let
him do all the privileged calls (like ldconfig). Or, if one receives a
package (.DEB or .RPM), everything should work out of the box.
