[Vala] Extending Improved Gnome Panel Applet Example

Hello list,

this may not be the best place to ask, but my goal would be to add
another example to http://live.gnome.org/Vala/PanelAppletSample

i wanted to extend/modify the "Improved Panel Applet Example" with:

- show an icon instead of text label
- open a window on left click (and make it border-less and aligned under
the icon. like the gnome clock applet)

i got as far as replacing the label with eventbox and image, and open a
window when left clicking the icon. but i just can't find out how to
make a border-less window and align it under the icon...

i did found this:

but i assume it's too old and/or i'm just too dumb...

any pointers ?
