new string(bytearray,start,len)

and string s;

s.tobytearray()

Probably in Java. Vala doesn't use camelCase for methods :)

By the way, I'm not sure if you intended to send that message only to
me. You sometimes have to use "Reply to all", to reply on a mailing
list. :)
