Hi,
another use case came to my mind and the question if this, or which other
method, could be helpful for it:
On a multiuser system a user wants to open a non-public device (i.e. reading
his removable media or from the microphone).
Would it be recomendendable to reserve the drive/event for some time? Say you
first access the empty cdrom drive and together with the error message you
get a lock on the drive for say 10 seconds and the option to retry it or
discard the lock right away.
With the microphone probably only the users on the active local console(s) and
display(s) should be allowed to lock/read the mic. For non-active or remote
users writing to a sound channel may be allowed by default. Only lokal users
have access to the mixer.
