Hi,
My CDROM/DVD icons look just right. CDs and DVDs show up looking like
CD media. Plus the context menu uses "eject" not "unmount" for CD/DVD.
Do you you have a firewire or USB CD/DVD? All of my CD/DVD drive lock
the eject button with mounted media -- which I hear is sort of rare :-)
As for my Utopia config -- on Fedora Core 2, I am still running
gnome-vfs2-2.6.0.j5.hal-8 (which is old but will run on FC2 / Gnome
2.6) ** I thought this is were those icons were set..
The other stuff is pretty up-to-date
hal (hal-0.2.97.cvs20040819-1)
dbus (dbus-0.22-4)
gvm (gnome-volume-manager-0.9.9-1)
udev (udev-029-4)
My system is what I call FC2+ since I've only updated the critical
things (besides the kernel) to get the utopia stack working. I have a
couple of other updates like kudzu (so that the fstab-sync is proper)
but other than that its pretty vanilla.
What versions are you running? --- I just looked at a previous post of
yours saying you are running Slackware 10 -- if that is the case do you
have a patched gnome-vfs2? That is absolutely required to get the
"Computer" items to work correctly with the rest of the Utopia stuff.
(It also makes the kudzu moot) If not, Mr. (J5) still has the
gnome-vfs2-2.6.0-j5-hal-8.src.rpm available, so you can get the needed
patch there and rebuild your gnome-vfs2 -- just a thought -- or are you
running Gnome 2.7 soon to be 2.8?
Plus I have to agree, this is great stuff. This is what has turned Linux
into a real usable desktop. (Now if I could just get a working kernel
so that the OHCI driver and usblp with the nFORCE2 chipset will talk to
my printer. -- but that is definitely Off Topic)

first I want to say. THX for making this great project I love it :p
but I got a remark and a question :)
remark:
plz use for mounted cdrom, dvd etc an other icon then for harddisk
volumes
question:
will users always have to umount their cdroms by right clicking on the
icon and select umount. Or are there plans to let the user just press
open on the cdrom drive?
If umount is the way you want to go. Wouldn't it be more logical to
replace umount by throw out :) (umount cdrom and open the tray) if you
umount you propably want the cd out ... :)
