Yes, I was aware that vertical screen space was a disadvantage of the
slider aspect of the design (the mixed tab widths approach exists
independently of the slider, I hasten to add). I was unsure about how
significant a disadvantage it was, though. In particular, I hadn't
considered the widescreen/netbook issue. I can see how that could be a
problem.
The same kind of functionality that you get with the slider could be
accommodated by something that wouldn't take up as much vertical space.

alternative.
