I suggested a simple way of doing this a few weeks
ago: have the button (whatever it's labelled) open
GConf at the right node for the prefs it was clicked
in.

Though it sounds perverse, you could have a master
GConf setting "show GConf link in prefs dialogs"
that's off by default...
