Hi,
I use XDMCP clients (X -query <server>) on "thin" Linux machines to connect to
a "thick" Linux machine running gdm as XDMCP server. Here is what I want - when
I leave a client machine, I don't want to logout, but want to disconnect to the
server. Now when I connect to the server from same or any other machine, I want
to get the earlier logged in session. That means I should be able to achieve
this - I leave an email half typed, disconnect to server, come back later,
connect to server and then complete the email.
After a little investigation I found that windows xp already has this kind of
feature. They call it Remote Desktop. Whenever a user connects to a windows xp
machine, he gets his already logged in session. When he leaves the machine he
just needs to click on 'Disconnect' instead of 'Logout', and when he connects
to the machine from somewhere else or logs on the console, he gets his earlier
session as if he has been working there forever.
I could not locate how to use this feature in GNOME. How do I achieve this in
GNOME?
Just curious, who is responsible for this kind of feature - gdm (acting as
XDMCP server) or the gnome window manager?
Please redirect me to other discussion forum, if this is not the correct place
for this question.
Thanks in advance,
Harendra
