It is bad because it removes any chance of consistency between
applications such as media players. 

I do not see why more people do not see the issue with not having
consistent interfaces between applications. If a person knows how to use
something already, then why force them to learn something new? There are
plenty of strong standard interfaces within the desktop computer world
already, so why try to sabotage that consistency? I am not saying things
like the File menu or Edit menu are ideal, but destroying these
consistencies does not offer any real innovation that will make it
easier for users.
