Now, I see that you can use CTRL + L to open a location dialog. Then it
is not as bad as I thought. But still as it was noted in the archive,
somewhere the users must be informed about CTRL + L.

What about have a Help button on the dialog? Or would that clutter to much?

However in some way keyboard users must get to know the existence of
CTRL  + L. Just don't except keyboard users to know it without being
told about it.

OK, yes it is written down in
/usr/share/gtk-doc/html/gtk/GtkFileChooser.html (is that what you meant
with the README? `locate "Gtk*Readme GTK*README gtk*readme"` gave me
nothing.)

In Glade 2.6.8 I cant just type to find a file nor a dictionary.
