Hmm, I kinda have to write things down to sort my thoughts on this.
1. I don't think we want a acutal "splash screen" for this, but rather
some gtk window kinda thing (can have a banner). Splash screens
shouldn't have user interaction.
2. Then we have checkboxes with the icons and names besides them. You
can either click the boxes or the icons and the name to mark the box.
3. Now what we need is still a standart session. The programs of this
session are alwas visible and checked.
4. Other programs that were opend before are either always checked or
always unchecked as standard. This has to be a preference to be set by
the user.
5. There is a time out if the user doesn't do anything for a while, the
desktop will load with the currently checked programs. other than that
there is a "start desktop" button.
6. The Panel, Nautilus, MetaCity and what ever else goes in this list is
loaded right away, before pressing the start-desktop button, to keep the
loading times shorter after pressing the button. Basically not to waste
time.
7. Have a preferences item in the control center to "always load default
session" and "always load last session".
8. After pressing start-desktop, there can be an animation in the
optional banner or just a hourglass cursor.
Now that I put this stuff down, I hope it makes sense to you. I might
make a mockup after having dinner... but be aware, it'll look very XPy
since I'm using my eXperience theme. Please don't start crying :))
Take care!
David
