Sun's Java Desktop System (based on GNOME+SuSE) was designed from the start with the goal of minimising retraining costs for companies who wanted to switch their users over from Windows desktops, or run them side-by-side. The full version isn't free ($50 to you), but you can download a Live CD version from http://jdshelp.org if you just want a play.
