You can do it in gedit by using the "Indent lines" plugin.
You select a block (or put the cursor in the line you want to indent) and
press the key Ctrl+T (or Shift+Ctrl+T to unindent).
Note that the default behavior of GtkTextView (and so of gedit) when pressing
TAB is replacing the selected text with a single TAB.
