There is someone working on a similar idea - I think his applet is called gsouls. Perhaps you could share your ideas with him?
I'd personally much rather have good quality docs, available via a usable interface. I'm afraid when I've used Windows at all, these little creatures have been switched off right away. I would imagine they are an impossible pain to make accessible to people who don't use a pointing device too.
