How about a rising Sun, ;)
that is how the day starts.

Or perhaps that would be more appropriate for differnt <strike>version of
Redhat</stike> Linux distribution.

But more seriously rising sun was the first iconographic thing that came
into my head that suggested starting something and it would help balance
that 'Log Out...' icon that looks like a moon.  (Unfortunately I find the
moon icon fairly confusing, it makes me think of the After Dark
screensavers for Apple Mac).
