Well, I've found it. All we need is something like the Web Control applet
that's already in GNOME 1.4. Just type whatever URL and a Nautilus window
will open with it.

As Tuomas pointed out, this functionality already exists.

Perhaps a small expander button could be displayed, or a tooltip that says
'Press Control+Shift+letter to search' or something along that line.
Needless to say it would be mentioned in the manual. ;)
(for those who haven't followed the discussion: this is not a task that
the web control applet would take, but a task for a entry field that would
pop up to facilitate incremental search in the tree sidebar.)
