Could I suggest you perhaps send an email to
gnome-accessibility-list gnome org summarising these default button
issues, and asking for their comments?  Expert users are certainly one
group of people who have strong opinions on keyboard-related
functionality, but so are visually or physically impaired users, so I
think it's important that we get their opinion on this as well.
