This is an issue that requires the app, the window manager, and the
session manager to all work properly. I'm in the process of making the
profterm/metacity/msm triplet work properly; then I'll at least
understand the issues in a controlled context, and can look at what's
wrong with the stuff that's actually included in gnome. ;-)
Anyway, in principle it already restores to desktop, it's just broken
in various places.
