Re: [Tracker] tracker over activities menu

Hi!,

Hello,

I'm on ubuntu 17.04 GNOME.

Using tracker-needle, everything is fine. But when I'm using GNOME's
activities menu, I only get results from my home directory, not the
sub-directories, allthough they all are in the settings (tracker-
preferences). And only file names, no contents.

Is it true that the activities menu should call tracker results as well
as tracker-needle? - And in the case - what's going wrong on my
machine?

That doesn't happen directly. Gnome-shell uses the "search provider"
dbus interfaces, nautilus implements one such search provider for the
shell, which does use Tracker as per code in upstream.

Now, even though Ubuntu allows installing Tracker, they went through
great lengths to avoid a mandatory dependency on it. As a result, all
Tracker code in Nautilus has been patched away by Ubuntu, which made
the search experience within nautilus/overview below par.

Hope that clears things up!

Cheers,
  Carlos
