Looks really good.

One thing, the "fix all warnings" won't ever happen. The deprecations, 
sure, but the others are mostly Vala warnings which I've tried to 
mitigate with Vala build sources CFLAGS. Maybe we can do more here as 
it's not changed in a while. As for the deprecations, I try to do these 
when I can, but there are some I am unclear about how to fix. I had one 
in mind regarding the GTask and GThreadPool API we're using which I 
asked Jürg about a while back, but there was no quick answer there.

I agree. The roadmap hadn't changed in years.

One of the things I/we had in mind was the possible separation of the 
components into separate repositories. I made a start by moving all 
sources into their respective directories (i.e. no data/ top level). It 
should all be mostly modular.
