Double click should also open.

If you run tracker-needle in the terminal, is there some error?

If you use:

$ export TRACKER_VERBOSITY=3
$ export G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all
$ tracker-needle
...

You should get some debug about opening a file there... it should work.
