You're checking for characters in a database?
I mean one query per one character?

I suspect your query isn't quite right, we can help with that if you 
share it here. Alternatively, you can contact me privately if you're 
concerned with making the query public - but if you do you increase the 
chances of response and improvement suggestions ;)

Without the query, it's not possible, but I have a good idea about what 
you might be looking for if you have more details...
