I never quite understood this part. I was never a fan of the name, or
generic names for projects, partly due to searchability (e.g. names
like 'python' 'gnome').

Anyways, is it not easier/better to do a rename when a project is
younger... as in now?

In open source any project is as young as it has contributors, releases
and testers.

There are open source projects that are 20 years old, and are still
'young', and there are open source projects that are 2 weeks old and
that are already old and forgotten.
