I had all the pdf files in my gnome documents 
application. After enabling the google doc settings, all the local files
 got removed from documents.

Why is it failing now when it worked before? (I never checked the log 
before. I guess the extraction should be complete for the file to get 
displayed in the gnome documents). I also have doc files but even they 
are not getting extracted or displayed anymore. Why?

Even I feel 20 seconds are more than enough for the extraction process for a single file. Could it be something else?

We could add some option for this, on the other hand, 20 seconds to extract information about a PDF should be more than enough.

The only way around this right now is to remove the timeout in the tracker-extract code.
