if adding some extra code in existing extractor for storing/retrieving some additional application-specific metadata... then i think i have to do this in all supported video format extractor..

If you think those metadata can be useful ton anyone, then it'd be better
to
improve the existing extractor.
Else, you can look in the doc for class signals, which allow you to be
notified when a resource of a certain type is created.
