Hello,
Is it possible to have tracker automatically read additional metadata
from a second file? For example, if tracker indexes testfile.odt, I want
it to automatically read metadata about testfile.odt from
testfile.odt.xml (or some other suitable format).
The format for this is called XMP. You can store a so-called sidekick
XMP file next to the file. Tracker will pick those up when done
correctly.
Ah, that sounds fantastic! I like that approach much better. I guess
that creating XMP fill will also be even easier than polling tracker
until it has indexed a new file and then inserting the metadata into
tracker.
Tracker uses inotify, not polling, to know about file updates.
And it also solves my concerns about the metadata accidentally
vanishing.
?
There seems to be a lot of XMPs though. Are you talking about
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extensible_Metadata_Platform?
Yes
Does the XMP file have to have a special file name,
Read the specification, look for XMP sidekick files
http://www.adobe.com/products/xmp/
or is the name of the described file part of the XMP data itself?
Read the specification
Googling for "xmp tracker" or "xmp metatracker" was just as
fruitless as searching for "xmp" on the tracker wiki, so I'm a bit
at a loss here...
Cheers,
Philip
