Currently we have GFileMonitor (glib > 2.16) to monitor a file or a
directory for changes
http://library.gnome.org/devel/gio/stable/GFileMonitor.html
But everyone hope that GConfig will be available in a near future,
replacing gconf.

Hmmm. Is there anything more to GConfig than a set of outdated notes? I've been hearing about it on and off, but its being has always seemed elusive to me.
Cheers,
Mikkel
